The next feature film out of The IraqEye Group, our Media Production Collective in Baghdad, Iraq. Directed by Iraqi filmmaker Hayder Daffar, Sadr City Soccer tells the unique story of Soccer in Iraq, past, present and future.
"Sadr City Soccer" follows National Team Captain Ala'a Khadum as he plays a season in the National circuit and mentors Ahmed, a teenage player from Khadum's hometown of Sadr City. Over the course of the movie, Khadum performs in his professional capacity and offers his recount of the bizarre, twisted history of Iraqi soccer. When not training with his team, Khadum takes some time to coach local children competing in informal youth leagues of Sadr City. The daily struggles of Ahmed and his assorted band of teenage soccer fanatics create a portrait of present day Iraq, as they train and try to master their skills at the sport they love. Through their young eyes we see the hope for the future of the sport and the country itself, as Coalition forces begin to withdraw and the fate of the new government is up in the air.

1 race, 200 teams, 8000 miles, 2 deserts, 5 mountain ranges, in a beat up old Fiat on roads ranging from bad to non-existent, with no support crew: the Mongol Rally is one of the last, great, stupid adventures left on this planet. Follow three American teams as they struggle against the elements, bribe border guards, forge rivers and cross sinkholes across a Northern, Middle and Southern route to Ulaan Baatar, capital of Mongolia. And it's all for Charity. This year the entrants in the rally will raise over one million dollars for a variety of charities benefiting the various countries along the route.
Every August for the past five years, several hundred brave souls have set out from London in search of one of the last wildly dangerous adventures available on the planet: The Mongol Rally. In cars unworthy of a trip to the grocery store the daring men and women on MR2k6 will set out along one of three routes to cover 8,000 miles of harsh terrain, nonstop malfunctions and sometimes hostile locals. The obstacles they will face include gun-wielding, horse riding bandits, corrupt border guards, ten foot potholes, irate camel herders, the Gobi Desert, crumbling bridges and of course, the flimsy, 1 liter engine that has to drag them through the thick of it.
We are looking to raise $35,000 for this production with $10,000 already raised. |
